antique plant pedestal

I am not sure of the type of wood this is. The pedestal is 46 inches tall x 9 inches wide at top. The leg spread is approximately 21 inches wide at floor. The top looks to be attached with old type slotted flat head screws, very well made solid does not rock. It is very rare I come across such a uniquely heavy carved item as this pedestal.
