Description:

Hello! I have had the sudden fortune to be able to move much closer to my job. Which is bittersweet for me but fortunate for you because now you have the opportunity to sublease the 2 rooms of the cozy Cathedral Hill flat I’ve lived in for four lovely years for the (relative) low, low price of $546.00 a month! First, a summary for those pressed for time: -Status: if this is still posted we are still looking -Location: Just off Selby Ave in Cathedral Hill part of Saint Paul -Availability: A.S.A.P. -Up Front Costs: $60.00 fee for the background check that you will need to pass & $500.00 deposit down along with first month’s rent. -Monthly Costs: $546.00 & roughly $30.00 a month for internet -Commitment: 1 at least one full year until next August. Should you need to move again it will be your responsibility to find a replacement just as I am now. -Rooms: 2 rooms. Your piece of the lease covers your own private bedroom and the room that connects to another renter’s bedroom. He’ll still need to go through it to get to his room but you can furnish it for yourself. -Housemates: 2 men and 1 woman. -Pets:1 full time cat, 1 part time. Another cat is negotiable but no dogs. -Smoking: Due to a careless previous tenant of the house’s top unit, the landlord will not tolerate any smoking in the house or on the property. Housemates are 420 friendly, but again: no smoking in the house or on the property. -Laundry: On site in the basement shared for all three units. Coin-op. Plus a clothesline in the backyard if you’re Amish or cheap. -Parking: Off-street space for 1 car included in your lease. -Number of occupants: 1 person. No couples or families please. You may have people visit but there are spaces for 4 names on the lease and there should be no more than four people in this house most of the time. You’ll need to be considerate of your 3 roommates and their differing schedules to make this work. The house is on Laurel Ave just a block from The Gnome, Revival, and the French Hen Cafe (personal favorite) on Selby Ave. It’s a fantastically scenic area for walking/running and yet paradoxically extremely accessible via car thanks to the Dale exit to 94 and the Grand exit to 35E being within 5 blocks each of it. It’s an old 19th Century duplex (now triplex) with a front porch with seating and a swing. There’s an economically-utilized backyard with a fire pit, clothesline, table and chairs under a sunroof, and the landlord’s garden with compost we are encouraged to use. They even let us raid the herb garden during the summer. You’ll also have access to an off-road parking spot for one car by the garage included with your piece of the lease. The four bedroom flat comes with original wooden windows, a fireplace, ornate oak cabinetry, trim, and hardwood floors. There’s no central air but the house circulates air really well and the landlord has window units for the bedrooms he can lend out if the heat gets to be too much. We share a full kitchen with a pristine new gas stove, plenty of shelving and storage; of which, you can see in the pictures a couple drawers are in the process of being fixed and the landlords are looking to replace the vinyl floor here in the coming weeks. Within said cabinetry there are plenty of communal plates, glasses, utensils and pots & pans that have accumulated here over the years you’re welcome to use with the rest of the household, but there’s still plenty of space for your own ware and ornate glass cabinetry between the kitchen and hallway if you’re the sort to show it off. There are technically 2 bathrooms in the house but since one is only accessible through one of the bedrooms it’s his exclusive. The rest of us share the other which includes storage, a fan, and a full-sized tub with a standing shower. The unit has 3 communal rooms as is, 2 are connected in the front of the house with one used mostly as a bike workshop of sorts by our resident cyclist. We all store our bikes in that room and you’ll be welcome too if need be. He’s open to letting others use his bike rack to work on their bikes as long as you're respectful of his setup and bring-your-own-tools. The other living room is connected by a pair of ornate, pocket french doors, which match the original cabinetry. It’s been mostly used as storage, and space for litter box, cat tree, and a variety of chairs for napping by the resident queen of the household, Mirra. It could really shine and everyone here approves of someone coming in and making this space their own if they are inclined. At the end of the hallway in back of the house is a third common room which parts into two bedrooms. One of those will be yours. The other resident has no desire to use the common room, save hanging a few pieces of his incredible artwork, so you could use it as I did as a private living room. He’ll need to come through to get to his room, but other than that it’s all yours. This includes a large closet with built-in storage and hooks in addition to the standard clothes closet you'll have within your own bedroom. Apologies for the cluttered photos of these rooms. I’m in the middle of clearing my stuff out, so I’ve included some old photos in the reel from how the previous renter had it to give you a better idea of the space. The last part of the house is the basement. That’s where the coin-op laundry is located along with some extra storage. Finally there’s your roommates and the house rules. Again, there’s 2 men and 1 woman. Shared household goods like cleaners, TP, paper towels, etcetera are divided between all the housemates as needed. The important thing is to make sure you don’t leave your messes in common areas too long. 4 people are using these places. Every so often one of us would bite the bullet and clean them too. Essentially, if you can be mindful of the others in the house and in the habit of cleaning up after yourself it can be a really pleasant setup.
