Description:

We have a gorgeous room for rent in our 3BR/3BA home in Petworth (10 minutes’ walk from the Georgia Ave/Petworth Metro station). You would be sharing with three (3) thirty-somethings (one couple, one fella), two (2) adorable hellhounds, and a killer home cinema (!) with projector and surround sound in the basement. We are not looking to add any pets to our menagerie at this time. Rent is $960/month with move in starting August 1, though we're flexible on moving in a little earlier too. Comes partially furnished with a year-old queen bedframe + mattress (for sale from previous roommate) and a large dresser (free) if you want them. THE ROOM: Your digs are large and on the second floor, with amazing light and a sizable walk-in closet. The house has three full bathrooms, but since all the bedrooms are on the top floor we all end up using the same one, though there’s a second full bath on the main floor as well in case there’s a duel for the shower (the hot water heater can support two showers at once). Hardwood floors throughout. Utilities usually run $70-100 per month, depending on the season, and we share costs for house cleaning supplies and miscellany. Central A/C for summer, radiator heat in winter, internet. Landlady pays water. THE HOUSE: Shared kitchen with granite countertops, up-to-date appliances (oven, microwave, dishwasher, fridge, toaster oven, espresso machine, and all the coffee/tea paraphernalia you could ask for), and ample cookware (including a lot of baking equipment). Plenty of cabinet/fridge space to share, and worm composter. There's a garden out back where I grow things and the dogs dig things up and plenty of herbs. House is three levels. Upstairs: three bedrooms, a bathroom, and access to the attic (plenty of storage space). Main level: living room, dining room, kitchen, bathroom, backdoor to garden. Basement: was technically a live-in suite, is now a movie theatre, sewing nook, bike exercise area, and storage. That's also where the washer/dryer are, and another bathroom. THE HOUSEMATES: Stephanie (me): writer/editor, tenant organizer; mostly works from home Eric (her partner): non-profiteer, works in conflict resolution, wild about bikes; mostly works in an office though sometimes in the basement Mike (nice guy): another non-profiteer, works in conflict resolution but in a different geographic area; works all the time and in all places along with Sen Yai: "Fat Noodle," dog, 40 lbs, 9 years old, hails from Thailand, picks on Poquita: "Little Bit," dog, 35 lbs, 8 year old, hails from Puerto Rico We're all considerate--even the dogs!--housemates and like to chat while making dinner. We keep shared spaces clean and neat by sharing chores. Stephanie hosts a semi-regular feminist film night. Please put your favorite movie in ~ * the subject line * ~ of your reply to this post—not so we can judge your taste, but so we know you've actually read the listing. THE NEIGHBORHOOD: The house is in a great, green neighborhood with lots of trees, where people are always out and about walking their dogs or their children; our street is pretty quiet despite its proximity to great places. Nearby destinations include Honeymoon Chicken, Slash Run, Little Vietnam, Loyalty Books, the cemetery, and the library of course.
