They occupy the bottom of your tank with occasional trips to the surface to gulp air. While they are often thought of as scavengers, corydora catfish still need to be fed sinking pellets or wafers targeted to them specifically. A shoaling fish, corydora need to be part of a group of at least 6 to reduce stress. Care guide and tank parameters: 1. **Tank Size**: A 20-gallon tank is a good starting point, but larger tanks provide more space and stability. 2. **Water Parameters**: - Temperature: 72-78°F (22-25°C) - pH: 6.5-7.5 - Hardness: Soft to moderately hard (4-15 dGH) - Ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate levels should be monitored and kept at safe levels. 3. **Filtration**: A good quality filter is essential for maintaining water quality. 4. **Substrate**: Use fine-gravel or sand as substrate to mimic their natural environment. 5. **Decor**: Provide hiding spots with driftwood, caves, and live plants. Corydoras enjoy exploring and resting in these areas. 6. **Diet**: Feed them a varied diet including high-quality sinking pellets, frozen/live foods like bloodworms and brine shrimp. 7. **Social Needs**: Corydoras are social fish, so keep them in groups of at least 6 to reduce stress. 8. **Compatibility**: They're peaceful, but ensure tankmates are also gentle species, avoiding aggressive or large fish that may harass them. 9. **Water Changes**: Regular water changes (20-30% weekly) help maintain water quality. Remember to acclimate them slowly when introducing them to the tank, and monitor their behavior for signs of stress or illness. Happy fishkeeping!
