Description:

Hey everybody, my brother is moving out, which means we have one room opening up in our (rare) beautiful house in Williamsburg. Please read this entire doc before applying to make sure it's a fit, and we'll promise to read and reply to every application. The Location: At the intersection of Lorimer and Jackson, we’re only 3 blocks from the Lorimer L-stop and 5 blocks from McCarren Park. You couldn’t ask for a better home base in Brooklyn. There’s amazing food and fun stuff to do, plus it’s incredibly easy to make it into Manhattan in 10 minutes flat. The Room (~250 sqft): The room is available furnished (or unfurnished) has a LOT of natural light, a large closet, private bathroom, private office, and can easily fit a queen size bed. There's also plenty of storage space inside and outside the room. The House (~2,300 sqft): The entire first floor is an open floor-plan light-drenched living space designed for hosting community, with a huge skylight that opens with the touch of a button to let air in. We have a massive projector screen and 4k projector in the living room, that also doubles as a space for hosting company and lounging in the sunlight. There’s a dining room that comfortably seats 14 and a true chef’s kitchen with a gas burner and all sorts of great appliances. On the second floor you’ll find a washer and dryer plus a gym/yoga space with gymnastic rings and all sorts of equipment. There’s also a finished rooftop that’s great for hosting and a backyard with seating and a cherry blossom tree. The Economics: - Rent is $3,500 - Utilities and other things are split evenly IF YOU'RE INTERESTED: Please fill out this google form if you're interested in checking out the house: https://forms.gle/oeogFw2JbafKQ2k28 The Roommates: T (around year-round except when traveling 1-2x/mo): I've lived here for a year and feel unbelievably lucky to have found such a great place, and more importantly, stellar people to share it with. I'm an early 30’s entrepreneur from Colorado that has lived in NYC for 1 year after spending almost a decade in the Bay Area. I froze my ass off in the Midwest (Chicago) for college and then in Minneapolis afterwards so I'm loving my thawed out life here. I'm an avid skier, cyclist, slackliner, and camper, and will talk your ear off about my latest podcast/book discoveries if you let me. I meditate and exercise daily (often with friends) so the invite is always open. I'm a burner and music lover that is prone to live on the silly side of life. I volunteer a good amount and have been teaching financial literacy classes for the past 10 years so I'm happy to help get yo books in order! I should also mention that I'm very extroverted and love cooking and hosting Shabbat dinners in addition to other impromptu gatherings. This is something that I share in common with N & B, speaking of which: N & B (around ~4.5 months of the year): We are a couple who both just turned 40. After spending the first phase of our adult lives pursuing advanced degrees and fast-paced careers, we are now focusing on stewarding land and connecting with nature. We now live primarily at Wildsong, the magical 150-acre land that we steward in Bethel, NY (~2 hrs northwest of the city). Our intention is to discover, through real-world practice, how to live in a way that honors and is in alignment with the ecological balance and the mutual thriving of all species on this planet; and in the process, learn and practice how to be the most whole and true versions of ourselves. At Wildsong, we are cultivating a regenerative farm, starting with a permaculture food forest (1,400 nut, fruit & medicinal trees and shrubs planted last year). We also run a nature-based retreat center and host yoga / meditation / medicine / healing retreats across a wide set of modalities, as well as community weekends for those who desire to connect deeper with Mother Earth and return her love in a tangible way - digging in the dirt and caring for the domestic and wild animals and plants. When in Brooklyn, we can be found tending to the plants in the house and the backyard, reconnecting with our community here on dance floors (Ecstatic Dance, 5Rhythms, Contact Improv), singing circles, or packing our schedules and tummies with our favourite yummies across the city. We go to bed fairly early (~10pm on weekdays and ~midnight on weekends). Currently, we plan to be in Brooklyn ~25% of the time in the warm months and less than half the time in the cold months. T&N&B: We all love this home and have become friends. We're looking for someone that understands the limitations and upsides of shared living. Our household runs on open communication and mutual respect, plus a healthy dose of laughter. (Codew0rd: 42) We live very independent lives but also spend a good amount of time together so why not enjoy that or even look forward to it?! None of us do much drinking aside from the very occasional glass of wine, but we still have a liquor cabinet and respect others' choices to do so. We do enjoy a variety of other substances in moderation. During the weeks while we're in town, things are usually very calm except for the occasional date, small dinner party, or movie. On weekends we might host people one night, go to events, or are out and about. We don't often do things together, but we treat the home and our respective friendships as part of a single community, which means sharing the space and integrating activities in a welcoming way.
