Description:

We have a basement room available Sept 1st or October 1st for $565 including utilities in our updated Victorian house. We're looking for one housemate to join our community house. We're looking for people who like to cook and eat at home so as hang out with their housemates over meals and develop friendships We understand that life is busy, but we are hoping to find peopled who want to commit to a weekly, usually Sunday night, family dinner or some other weekly household event. The people who will be living in the house as of August 1st are Fabian from Germany studying law at Hamline Mitchell Law School for a year, Giovanna, starting law school at Hamline Mitchel, Phyll finishing a master's degree in psychology at the University of St. Thomas, Wei, from Burma, working in human resources, and I, the homeowner, have a master's degree in English Lit and manage the house. We also have Franky, an Aussie Doodle, Rosie, a Springer Spaniel and Violet, a Russian Blue cat. All of us love the outdoors, camping, canoeing, gardening, biking, reading, hiking, game nights, the theater, museums of all sorts and understand the preciousness of the earth and the need to take care of it. We live in our 7 bedroom, up-dated Victorian house filled with antiques, hardwood floors, tin ceilings and sunshine in St. Paul, located 3 blocks from the Green Line on University Ave. The address is 1022 Edmund Ave. St. Paul 55104. We're 3.8 miles from the St. Paul campus and 5.4 miles, a 12 minute drive by car, from the East Bank. It's about a 30 minute bike and train ride to the East Bank. We're about 1.5 miles from Hamline University and 1.8 miles from Como Lake. We're within two miles of several different kinds of grocery stores, restaurants and coffee shops. We follow a few rules/policies to help the house function. In order to reduce the amount of dirt that comes into the house on the bottom of our shoes we take our shoes off at the front door and put them in the trunk under the stairs, or take them to our bedrooms. Everyone takes a weekly turn cleaning a bathroom sink and toilet and sweeping the kitchen floor in addition to doing a weekly chore that takes an hour or so. If someone doesn't want to clean he or she can be opted out by adding $60/month to the rent. We also have a couple of yard work days, one in the fall and another in the spring, and everyone helps shovel snow in the winter. In the kitchen, we wash, dry and put away our dishes right after we eat, We also wipe down the stove top, countertops and table. We eat only in the kitchen and dining room; we do not eat in our bedrooms. We vacuum our bedrooms at least every other week, and we clean up after ourselves in the bathroom. When carrying liquids beyond the kitchen, we use a cup with a lid. In order to maintain privacy and safety we don't allow overnight guests unless they are visiting from out of town. We have this rule because we don't want people bumping into strangers in the middle of the night. Understanding that our world has a limited amount of resources and space, we try to use resources, like water and electricity, judiciously, and we recycle and compost everything we can. In summary we have the following: Nice Location -- Close to Hamline University and Hamline Mitchell Law School -- 3 blocks from Green Line station and ALDI grocery -- Walking distance to Groundswell coffee, Target, Cub Foods -- Close to bus lines: 83, 67, 16, 21 -- Walking/jogging distance to parks and Como Lake -- Lovely, quiet neighborhood --Vegetable farm/park Amenities -- Furnished Victorian house with hardwood floors, high ceilings and big windows -- Well-equipped kitchen (gas range and oven, numerous quality pots and pans, dishes, utensils, etc.) -- living room, dining room, large kitchen and den, 3 bathrooms -- Washer and Dryer -- Bicycle storage -- Street parking available
