$833 1 bedroom available- Nice room in large JP shared home (Jamaica Plain) Eclectic group of 5 people seek a friendly community-oriented housemate starting either September or October 1! The lease runs through the end of August 2024. We all enjoy cooking, gardening, and music. Friendly and responsible housemates looking for the same! More info on us: We range in age from 30's to 60's. Some of us are vegetarian/vegan and queer (but omnivore-friendly), and we have a rather slow compost bin and two raised beds in the yard. We are very different from each other and keep different schedules, but are all friendly and responsible housemates looking for the same. We often host small pot-luck dinners, art hangs, movie and music nights for friends and family. We also have some great outdoor garden space for meeting with folks. Location: The house is located on a beautiful, quiet, tree-lined street in Jamaica Plain, one block from Jamaica Pond and the Emerald Necklace with easy access to public transport. There are many restaurants within a 10-15 minute walk. Bus #39 stops within a 5-minute walk and Stonybrook T-stop (Orange line) is 12 minutes away. The E Green line is also quite close. Free on-street parking is available if you have a car. Close to Centre Street shops, restaurants, thrift and grocery stores. House: The house has 6 bedrooms over two floors and is very spacious. There is one kitchen, 2 bathrooms (one per floor), 1 dining room, 2 living rooms (with one working fireplace, and one wood stove), breakfast nook, and plenty of storage space and basic woodworking shop in the basement. Free washer and dryer are in the basement. We have a yard with flower gardens, 3 raised herb and veggie beds, a firepit, and room to socialize outside as well as a rooftop garden. We take turns doing household cleaning chores every week (taking the trash out, cleaning the kitchen, rooms and bathrooms), and have a monthly low-key house meeting to coordinate decisions. We generally share a purchase of firewood for the fireplaces in the winter, split utilities, and split a household bill that varies but stays affordable for staples and oddities around the house such as toilet paper and cleaning supplies. No cigarette smoking in the house, but the porch is ok. There are two friendly dogs and one friendly cat in the house! We like to be open and negotiable and make consensus-based decisions. The bedroom is a good sized room (12’ x 13 ½’) with a small balcony overlooking the garden through french doors, windows facing west, with a large closet across from the room. It is on the first of our two floors. It gets great late day sun. Utilities: The gas bill ranges from approximately $15/person during summer time to around $80-$100/person during peak winter months (3 months). Electric bill is $20-$50/person/month, internet (currently no cable) is $15/person/month. First and security is required to move in ($1667 altogether). The landlord requires a credit check.
