Gout is a type of inflammatory arthritis that causes sudden, severe joint pain. It is caused by a condition known as hyperuricemia, where there is too much uric acid in the body. Gout occurs when there is an accumulation of monosodium urate crystals within the joints, resulting in pain, swelling, dysfunction/disability as well. If gout is affecting your quality of life, then you might be interested in a research study conducted by Accellacare. This research study is evaluating the safety and effectiveness of an investigational drug combined with allopurinol for the treatment of gout. This study may be an option if you: • Are 18-75 years old • Have been diagnosed with gout • Have had at least 2 gout flare-ups in the last 12 months. • Have a BMI between 18.0 and 40.0 kg/m2 • Are on a stable dose of allopurinol (Aloprim, Zyloprim) for at least one month. Other criteria apply. Qualified participants will receive study-related evaluations and care at no cost. Financial compensation will also be provided for time. You will receive a total of $1225 for the completion of the study, this includes $300 for three visits, $50 for six visits and $25 for completing a telephone visit.
